CONFIGURING THE WINDOWS® PRINT MANAGER

If you have a Windows 95/98 ® workstation, but your printer is not physically connected to it, the following simple procedure will help ensure that any reports from your MicroData Systems' Software will be printed in a timely fashion:

NOTE: This configuration tip is provided as an information-only courtesy to our customers who may be experiencing difficulties printing from MicroData Systems' software running under the Windows 95 Operating System. Consult your Windows 95 documentation for detailed explanations of the concepts involved. MicroData Systems, Ltd. accepts neither responsibility nor liability for the implementation of the below configuration changes, which should be left to qualified personnel >

  1. Use NotePad© to open the SYSTEM.INI file in the C:\WINDOWS folder.
  2. Add the following lines after the end of the [386Enh] section:
    [Network]
    PrintBufTime=15

    [IFSMGR]
    PrintBufTime=15
  3. Save the SYSTEM.INI file.
  4. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

What this does is to force Windows 95/98 to start sending print jobs to the network printer 15 seconds after it detects the (DOS) program has stopped sending data to the printer port. Without this modification, Windows 95 will wait more than a minute.
